Desert Pain

Posted by jonasvdb May. 26, 2010 @ 2:28 PM EDT

Desert Pain
The far desert of Gronzin a vast place of emptyness where the sun burns into your skin if it was your first time you ever stepped into the desert.
There was only one big city who was destroyed by plundering thieves who murdered the people and burned the buildings and destroyed the beauty of the city
Only one man remained in the destroyed and now cold and dead looking city.
The man who survived was a warrior who was called Zed, who was exhausted and at the end of his powers the bleedings showed he fought hard and brave.
The first thing he saw was the sun shining on his face and blinding him for a few seconds.
He gazed at the burned down city and picked up the smell of dead decaying bodies.
He stepped further through the city if he was to be able get out of this city he had to find a camel but also a good weapon would come in handy.
He walked through the city looking for anything useful that could either stop the bleeding or be useful for his escape.

He had luck as he saw a sword of a soldier who's face got a deep wound in his forehead probably caused by an axe.
He picked up the sword, the sword was perfect it weighted not to much and was easy to use and quickly to draw.
He took the sword with him and the shield that was near another dead body of a soldier.
Now equipped with a sword and shield he felt more confident that he would escape this city and find a place where he could get quick medical care if he would be able to reach that place.
The sun was now his biggest enemy once he loved the sun when the city had its glory its traders and smiling people.
But now he cursed the sun why had the sun have to be there why now in his most painfull moment he ever felt? He thought to himself.

Unable to find a camel he rested at a house waiting for the night to fall in then he might had a change to escape the city and find a near town.
The house he came in to was full of people either stabbed down or their throat sliced over.
He picked up the bodies and carried them outside leaving it to the sand of time to clean up the mess done by humanity.
He made the house more comfortable as best as he could.
And treated his wound with water and bandaging it so the bleeding would stop.
After doing that he searched some sheets so he would sleep better.
When he found some sheets covert with holes and ragged he thought this would do.
He was used to the sheets they had in the barracks so this would be perfect for a warrior like himself.
He lay down slowly as he did not want to start the bleeding again or feel another painful muscle.
He did not rest for long, a sound waked him it was already night apparently he overslept himself.
He heard noise outside where the thieves back
He thought?
Or where it some travelers that found the city.
The city was quite famous for its markets well as famous as you could be as a city in the middle of a desert.
He raised himself up slowly and went outside trying to make at least noise as possible.
He spied on the people that where at what once was the market.
The market was a vast open space with a big fountain at the center of the market.
It were traders he could recognize them at there loaded camels.
They probably searched for valuable items the thieves did not found or what people hided.
His anger growed first thieves and now some low live traders would steal the possessions that were of the dead citizens.

He rushed out towards them completely forgetting his pain.
One man saw him and spanned his bow and shot an arrow.
Quickly drawing his shield Zet could stop the arrow.
Now two more traders saw him and they drawed there scimitars rushing into Zet flanking him.
Zet used his shield to stop the first attack of a trader.
Then he used his sword to stop the scimitar of the second attacker.
He jumped back and pushed his shield into the right trader in his face.
The trader was hitten so hard he fell on the ground laying not moving anymore.
Now the only remaining one attacked again with a big shout.
Again Zet stopped the attack with his shield and with his face knocked the attacker to the ground.

The bowman who was scared to use his bow to hurt his fellow traders waited for the right moment.
Now that he had a wide open space with no people in front of him.
He could shoot an arrow into the legs of Zet making him unable to continue to fight.
Instead of doing that he lowerd his bow and asked what his business was in this town and why that he attacked them.
Zet replied and told what has happened to the city and himself and showed his wound.
The trader said that they would not harm him if he putted back his weapon and shield.
Zed doubted the man trustworthy but he thought of the possibilities and the chance to get out of here.
He pushed his luck and it was a good move he helped the traders who were kicked on the ground back up.
After helping them get back up the traders nursed his wound.

Zet asked if he could come with them.
The traders did agree they were good at heart but they had another reason.
A warrior like him could help them have a safer journey through the desert.
Zet and the traders talked for a while and then went to sleep.
Zet quickly fell asleep was it the warmth of the fire or the medicine the traders gave them that made him fall asleep so easily?

The next day the traders were up already when Zet opened his eyes.
Not having a camel left Zet was forced to walk.
He did not mind but the pain was still not completely gone in his arm the fight from last night had made it worse but the medicine of the traders lowered the pain.
They walked down the streets of the city to the gate as they went through Zet new this was only the beginning of his adventure.
